We just get a little time here
To look around, exchange a few words,
Make one or two memories, eat good food,
Find love, make life, and learn to let it go.
Let’s not be overbothered
By questions of ultimate meaning.
Let’s have a drink, inhale the noontime sun,
Laugh at bad jokes, give comfort where we can,
And close our eyes in the final drowsiness
More weary than sad,
More in gratitude than hope.
