The hag looks over the ocean,
Her face a graft of stone;
The hag looks over the ocean,
Intransigent, alone.
The hag looks over the ocean
For a glimpse of brighter days.
The hag looks over the ocean
Into a sunset blaze;
The hag looks over the ocean
When mist has claimed the world;
The hag looks over the ocean
When star-maps lie unfurled;
The hag looks over the ocean
For a thousand thousand years;
The sea replies with motion,
And the hag replies with tears.
